Recitals

Students have the opportunity to perform in two recitals each year, in fall and spring.  There is also a "mini" organ recital at the end of June.  Recitals are held at the local library auditorium, on a grand piano.

Private Lessons/Lab Time

Lessons are one hour long, 30 minutes private lesson and 30 minutes lab time.  45 minute lesson are also an option and highly recommended for intermediate and advanced students.

Private lessons are with the teacher on a grand piano.  During lab time, students will use a tablet, laptop, and digital pianos to reinforce concepts like flashcards, sight-reading, theory and ear-training.

Group Lessons

Group lessons are held 5 times throughout the year.  They take the place of the private lesson for that week.  Group lessons are essential to give the students performance opportunities outside of the recital experience and how to give listening feedback. Students prepare performance pieces and technic to perform for their peers.  Groups are scheduled with peers their age and level.

Festival/Competition Opportunities

In the Fall, students are encouraged to participate in Federation Duets.  They are partnered up with a student of the same level, and perform 2 duets for festival judges and at the fall piano recital.

AIM (Achievement in Music) is held each spring.  Students prepare all year to participate.  They will be tested in 5 areas - performance, technic, ear-training, theory and sight-reading.   Students who participate receive comment sheets from trained adjudicators and a certificate of completion. Those students who pass the full program with a score of 70% or also receive a custom-designed medal.

Fun Summer Activities

Each June and July, students will attend 4 private lessons chosen from 7 weeks. This way it is easier to work your piano lessons around vacations.

In August we have a 4 day “Piano Camp”.  Piano Camp themes from the past include organ, jazz, composition, and improvisation.

Studio Incentives

Each year, the piano studio has a new studio incentive. Students will work on specific goals and be awarded for their progress.  Past themes have been "Kings and Queens of the Keyboard", "Piano Olympics", "Piano Karate".

Treats/prizes are handed out weekly for the students that fulfill their practice requirements.  There is also"Perfect Practice" reward - when students practice their required days and time every week, they will receive a $5 gift card to the piano store at the recital.
